Despite being less powerful in magic until his resurrection, Galadriel thought that Gandalf was more deserving than Saruman to lead the White Council since he was one of the most intelligent and wisest individual in Middle-earth. He was highly versed in the history and customs of several people of Middle-earth, as well as the many languages and writing systems that were spoken there. He believed he was the greatest scholar on Hobbit traditions. His lengthy travels gave him the opportunity to meet and establish enduring relationships with a number of significant and important individuals. He was a skilled firecracker maker, as the Hobbits knew. Although he was reluctant to face Saruman and Sauron directly as Gandalf the Grey, he was acknowledged as even more powerful after his rebirth. Nevertheless, outside of the Shire, Gandalf the Grey was regarded as one of the most powerful and wisest beings to have ever walked Middle-earth. According to Aragorn, the leader of the Fellowship of the Ring, he was regarded as its most powerful member and, in part, because of his extensive knowledge. He may have been the main architect of downfall of Sauron because of his exceptional intelligence, which enabled him to predict thoughts of other people with accuracy. Furthermore, as demonstrated by his deception of Háma into letting him present his staff to the king, Gandalf was adept at telling folks things that, from a certain perspective, were true.
