As a result of the deeds of Beren, every group of people fighting Morgoth came together to form the brave but ultimately unsuccessful Union of Maedhros. His affection and love for Lúthien Tinúviel, as well as his willingness to go to any lengths to ensure that it contributed to the development of greater respect of Men among the Elves. The first marriage between a mortal man and an Elven maid was that of Beren and Lúthien. Elwing, his granddaughter, wed Earendil, son of Tuor and Idril, and so Beren became great-grandfather of Elrond and Elros; the former was one of the most important people of the Second and Third Ages, while the latter was the first King of Númenor. Lineage of Lúthien extended to the House of Elendil, the royal house of Númenor, the Kings of the Reunited Kingdom, and other royal houses. One of the great tales of the Elder Days is the romance between Beren and Lúthien, which is echoed in the later romance between their descendants, Aragorn and Arwen Evenstar. His line would never be severed as long as the world existed, so the legend goes.
