One of the mightiest Elves, Glorfindel was formerly the ruler of House of the Golden Flower in Gondolin. He died bravely in the First Age, but later the Valar re-embodied him and brought him back to Middle-earth. Glorfindel, who came from a house of princes, was born in Eldamar at some point during Noontide of Valinor. He did not participate in the Kinslaying at Alqualondë, although he did follow the House of Fingolfin during the Flight of the Ñoldor. While in exile, Glorfindel participated in the Battle of Lammoth, trailing the House of Fingolfin, and accompanied Turgon at the Dagor Aglareb. He went to Gondolin with Turgon after the fight, where he was made a captain of the King and named Lord of the House of the Golden Flower. The Gondolindrim adored and respected him. Turgon designated Glorfindel, Ecthelion, and Egalmoth as escorts of Aredhel when she decided to leave Gondolin in search of the Sons of Fëanor. When the escort lost Aredhel close to Nan Dungortheb, they were refused entry into Doriath and instead turned north. Then they left her behind and headed back to Gondolin. Glorfindel fought in the Nírnaeth Arnoediad alongside King Turgon, supporting the flanks of King as they withdrew toward the Pass of Sirion.
