The Half-elven daughter of Dior the Fair and his wife Nimloth, Elwing was sometimes also referred to as Elwing the White. Eluréd and Elurín were brothers, and she was their younger sister. She gave birth to Elrond and Elros and married to another Half-elf, Eärendil the Mariner. Elwing and her siblings were born in a house close to Lanthir Lamath, where they remained until her father moved to Doriath to take over as its king. All of her direct family was murdered or lost as the Sons of Fëanor invaded Doriath, but those who were loyal to her family seized Elwing and the Silmaril they sought and brought her to the Havens of Sirion. Elwing met and eventually married Eärendil at the Havens. Elrond and Elros, his twin sons, were born to her. The ancestor of Aragorn II, Elros, was the first King of Númenor. Later, Elrond married Lady Celebrían, who was the daughter of Lady Galadriel of Lothlórien and Lord Celeborn. They had three Half-Elven children from this marriage: twin brothers Elladan and Elrohir, as well as future Queen of Gondor, Arwen Undómiel. When the Sons of Fëanor arrived for the Silmaril that Elwing possessed, she was forced to leave her children behind. Instead of handing over the Silmaril she plunged herself into the Sea, where the Vala Ulmo transformed her into a great white bird.
