In Irish mythology, the tale of Tuan mac Carell is recounted by St. Finnen, a sixth-century Irish abbot, who sought hospitality from Tuan, a grumpy pagan warrior chief living nearby. Tuan, a hermit, possessed memories from all his past lives and shared the ancient tales of Ireland. He was once known as Tuan, son of Starn, son of Sera, with his father Starn being the brother of Partholan. Tuan was the king of all the deer of Ireland. According to Tuan mac Carell, they descended to Ireland from the heavens. This narrative was later woven into a story that described their origins from four magnificent cities, whose names evoke enchantment and romance—Falias, Gorias, Finias, and Murias. In these cities, they acquired knowledge and skills from great sages, each of whom was revered in their respective city, and from each, they brought back a magical artefact. From Falias came the stone known as the Lia Fail, or Stone of Destiny, upon which the High-Kings of Ireland were crowned, believed to affirm the rightful election of the monarch by roaring beneath him as he ascended. The actual stone used for coronations had existed at Tara since ancient times and was sent to Scotland in the early sixth century for the crowning of Fergus the Great, son of Erc, who requested it from his brother Murtagh mac Erc, the King of Ireland. An age-old prophecy stated that wherever this stone resided, a king of the Scotic i.e. Irish-Milesian lineage, would rule. This is the renowned Stone of Scone, which was was taken to England by Edward I in 1297. The ancient prophecy has still proven true, as the lineage of the British royal family can be traced back through the Stuarts and Fergus mac Erc to the historic kings of Milesian Ireland.
