One of the bravest warriors of Gondor, Boromir was well-known for his combative abilities. He was the eldest child of Denethor II and Finduilas, the Steward of Gondor during the War of the Ring. He was even admired by the Rohan people, especially Éomer. He was elder brother of Faramir. The year TA 2978 is when Boromir was born. As the heir apparent to the Stewardship, he was the eldest child of Denethor II, the final Ruling Steward of Gondor, and his wife Finduilas. Mother of Boromir passed away when he was just ten years old. As a result, his father developed a pessimistic outlook and started to favor Boromir above his brother Faramir. In spite of this, Boromir raised his younger brother, and the two grew close. Boromir participated in the struggle of TA 3018 for the eastern portion of Osgiliath, dedicating himself to guiding his people. He had to swim the River Anduin to safety since he, his brother, and two other people were the only ones who survived the unit that held the bridge until it was destroyed. After the battle, Boromir traveled to Rivendell from Minas Tirith in order to solve a puzzle that had been given to him in a dream. After losing his horse in Tharbad, Boromir had to walk the whole distance. It was a 110-day journey. He arrived at the beginning of the Council of Elrond, where he explained how Gondor was protecting itself from Mordor and attempted to persuade them to give Gondor the One Ring since he believed it would be secure there. However, the council decided that destroying the One Ring was the only safe option and disagreed that it should go to Gondor.
