A distant ancestor of a line of kings that led to Aragorn II, Elros, also called Elros Tar-Minyatur, the Half-elven, was the first King of Númenor, the son of Eärendil and Elwing, the brother of Elrond, the uncle of Elladan and Elrohir and Arwen Undómiel. The Elves were half his kin, and he was good friends with them. Elros was born in Arvernien, an Elven haven, in FA 532. Elros and Elrond were captured by Maglor and Maedhros when they were still youngsters, and the Sons of Fëanor stormed the havens to reclaim the Silmaril. At about the same time, their mother, Elwing, disappeared from Middle-earth by casting herself into the great sea. Maglor reared Elros and his brother after that. Although they were both brought up in love, Maglor did not take pride in his actions. There is no indication of when or whether Elros and Elrond truly left Maglor or whether they took part in the War of Wrath, which subsequently ended the reign of Morgoth The War of Wrath eventually came to an end. In the First Age, the line of heroic chieftains of Men was limited to Elros and Elrond, who were Peredhil, or Half-elves. Elrond and Elros had the option of choosing which kindred to be a part of thanks to the Valar. Elros was also given a long life, though he made the decision to be of Man-kind. None of the lofty men however ever lived to be of the age of Elros, but Eönwë came among the devoted mortals and taught them, granted them power, intelligence, and a longer life than any other member of the mortal race. A great land was set aside for them; it was neither entirely apart from nor a part of Middle-earth.
