Lögberg, also known as Law Rock, was a rocky outcrop in southwest Iceland where Althing parliament of Iceland met. The first Althing met in Þingvellir, a region with stunning terrain that was easily reachable from the south-western cities. The precise location of Lögberg is uncertain due to the shifting topography of the rift valley over a period of a thousand years. Two potential locations have been found at Þingvellir, one in the Almannagjá fault up against a rock wall, and the other on a flat ledge at the top of a slope known as Hallurinn, which is now marked by a flagpole. The Hestagjá ravine has been suggested as the appropriate location. The seat of Lawspeaker, which served as that of the presiding officer of the Althing assembly, was located on the Lögberg. On the spot, statements and announcements were made. Everyone in attendance was free to argue from the Lögberg. Also, the meetings were called and dispersed from them. Since the creation of the parliament in 930 A.D., the Lögberg has served its purpose. When Iceland pledge loyalty to Norway in 1262 A.D., it stopped to be in use [Information and Image Credit : Lögberg, Wikipedia; Wikipedia-Link :  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%B6gberg ] [Image : A 19th-Century rendering of the Law Rock in Þingvellir, W.
