On the edge of Loch Fyne, longest marine loch of Scotland, sits Inveraray Castle, a country residence close to Inveraray in the county of Argyll, in western Scotland. One of the oldest examples of Gothic Revival construction can be found here. Since the 18th century, the Dukes of Argyll, the leaders of Clan Campbell, have called it their home. In September 1533, James V resided in the historic fortress of Inveraray. He had a brand-new lute sent to Inveraray by his servant Troilus from Glasgow. The current castle was constructed in a Gothic Revival design. The estate was upgraded by Archibald Campbell, Earl of Ilay, who would later become the 3rd Duke of Argyll, in 1743. A previous castle from the fifteenth century was replaced when the foundation stone of the new one was laid in October 1746. Along with Strawberry Hill House, it is one of the first Gothic Revival structures. All of the roofs were initially flat and crenellated. All four wings later received a third floor with a pitched roof and dormer windows, while the four circular towers received steep conical roofs. To provide the castle a more secluded setting, the village of Inveraray was destroyed and rebuilt nearby in the 1770s. Roger Morris and William Adam were two of the architects that worked on the new castle. Numerous neoclassical chambers designed by Robert Mylne for the 5th Duke later in the 18th century can be found inside. These are a few of the public spaces. When James Lees-Milne visited the house in 1943, he was not really impressed. Inveraray was devastated by fire in 1975, and while repairs were being made thanks to a global fundraising effort, the 12th Duke and his family temporarily resided in the cellar of the castle. Visitors are welcome at the castle. More than 1,300 pikes, muskets, swords, and other weapons are in its collection. The ghost of a harpist who was hanged in 1644 is said to haunt the castle, according to local ghost stories [Information and Image Credit : Inveraray_Castle, Wikipedia] [Wikipedia-Link :  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inveraray_Castle ] [Image : Inveraray Castle in 2014; Wikipedia-Author : DeFacto] [Image Availed Under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International] [(Please Relate to Individual Image URLs for More Usage Property)] [License-Link :  https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en ] [Wikipedia-Source-Image-URL :   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Inveraray_Castle_-_south-west_facade.jpg ]
