France, the Château de Falaise is a 12th–13th century castle situated south of the town of Falaise. The son of Duke Robert of Normandy, William the Conqueror, was born in approximately 1028 at a previous castle situated on the same site. After William conquered England and became king, the fortress was passed down through his heirs until King Philip II of France took possession of it in the thirteenth century.
