The Evil Queen, sometimes known as the Wicked Queen, is a made-up figure and the major adversary of — Snow White, a fairy tale that was translated into English by the Brothers Grimm. Similar tales can be found all over the world. Later fairy tale serialisations and interpretations, such as novels and movies but not limited to, have different iterations of the Queen. Queen Grimhilde is one rendition that stands out, and the figure has served as a template for other works that are unconnected. The wicked and vengeful stepmother of Snow White, who is fixated on being — The Fairest in the Realm, is known as the Evil Queen. The Queen is envious of the lovely young princess Snow White, so she devises a multitude of methods to use witchcraft to assassinate the Young Princess. The Magic Mirror of the Queen serves as one of the main movers of the plot, probably symbolising the pride or vanity of the queen and also an eternal tormentor. The Queen, however, is brutally executed for her misdeeds in the conventional ending of the tales. The story serves as a warning to young children about the perils of narcissism, vanity and arrogance. Some retellings of the fairy tale have altered or presented the Queen in a more sympathetic light, portraying her as ethically torn or insane rather than just plain evil. She plays the lead role in some of the revised tales and has even been presented as an antihero or a tragic fallen heroine.
