An imp is a fairy or demon-like creature from European mythology that is commonly mentioned in folklore and mysticism. The phrase -Ympe- which refers to a youthful grafted tree, may have been the source of the word. Imps are frequently referred to as bothersome and naughty beings rather than as really harmful or menacing supernatural entities. Imps are frequently depicted as having short statures and being unattractive. In some traditions, they are regarded as the same beings since they both exhibit chaotic, unrestrained close similarity to that of fairies and exhibit a love of all things enjoyable. The imp was a diminutive lesser demon that had its roots in Germanic religion and folklore. In contrast to Christian folktales, demons in Germanic legends were not always considered to be wicked. Imps were sometimes naughty rather than bad or harmful, and in some faiths, they served as the aides of deities. People did not start associating fairies and imps as nice and wicked respectively until far later in history. However, both the entities enjoyed pulling practical jokes and tricking others. In majority of the cases , these practical jokes were benign fun, but some of them might be unpleasant and dangerous, like exchanging newborns or misguiding tourists in unfamiliar areas. Imps can be hurt or injured by specific weapons and spells or they can be kept out of homes of people by wards, despite the fact that they are frequently believed to be immortal. Imps were sometimes also described as sad, helpless beings that played practical jokes and pranks on people to befriend them. When people were frustrated with the actions of the imps, this frequently backfired and drove it away.
