In Slavic Mythology, Ded Moroz is a legendary character who is comparable to Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and Santa Claus. Ded Moroz is a traditional figure that is primarily practised in East Slavic nations and is significant to Russian culture. Ded Moroz is dressed in a crimson or blue heel-length fur coat, a semi-circular fur cap and his feet is covered in valenki. His beard is long and white. He frequently rides a troika while walking with a long magic stick. He is frequently shown as giving gifts to polite kids, frequently doing so in person during the month of December and then quietly putting them under the Tree of New Year over the course of the Eve of New Year. The Russian settlement of Veliky Ustyug, in the Vologda Oblast, is regarded as the home of Ded Moroz. According to reports, Belavezhskaya Pushcha is home of Dzyed Maroz, a Belarusian. Grandfather Frost is the literal translation of Ded Moroz. Snegurochka, granddaughter and companion of Ded Moroz, similarly sports long silver-blue robes and either a snowflake-shaped crown or a furry headgear in East Slavic traditions. Since analogous figures in other cultures do not have female companions, she is a distinctive quality of Ded Moroz. As a Slavic magician of winter, Ded Moroz has a history that precedes Christianity. Some Slavic mythological accounts claim that Ded Moroz, formerly known as Morozko or Ded, is a snow being. At the turn of the nineteenth century, Ded Moroz became a celebrated figure.
