Narendra Damodardas Modi is an Indian politician who is the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is currently a member of Parliament from Varanasi. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Narendra Modi was born and raised in Vadnagar, a small town in northeastern Gujarat. There Modi completed his secondary education. He was introduced to RSS at the age of eight. As a kid, he had to work at his father's tea shop on the railway-platform of Vadnagar station. Narendra Modi was appointed as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001. As chief minister he was very much praised for encouraging economic growth of the state. Modi led the BJP in the 2014 Indian general election with a resounding victory, thereby giving the party a majority in the lower house of Indian parliament, the Lok Sabha, the first time for any single party since 1984. Modi's governance has led to massive raise in foreign direct investment in the Indian economy. He began a high-profile sanitation campaign to to achieve an "open-defecation free" (ODF) India by 2 October 2019. In 2017, the national sanitation coverage rose to 65% from 38.7% on Oct 2, 2014 before the start of the campaign. It was 90% in August 2018.[77] 35 states/Union Territories, 699 districts and 5.99 lakh (599,000) villages were declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) by 25 September 2019. The Modi administration tried to attract foreign investment in the Indian economy from several sources, especially in East Asia, with the use of slogans such as "Make in India" and "Digital India". The foreign relations of India with the USA also mended after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. The Modi-Government also played exemplary role in Managing and Tackling the COVID-19 Pandemic in India!
