Château de Najac, also known as the royal fortress of Najac, is situated in Najac, within the Aveyron département in southern France. The villagers constructed the castle in 1253 under the directives of Alphonse de Poitiers, the brother of Saint Louis, on the location of an earlier castle, specifically a square tower, erected in 1100 by Bertrand of St Gilles, who was the son of Raymond IV, count of Toulouse.
