The commune of Château-sur-Epte, in the French department of Eure, is home to the abandoned Châteauneuf-sur-Epte castle. King William Rufus of England started construction in 1097 to fortify the border along the Epte River. The Duchy of Normandy and the Kingdom of France shared a border with the location of the castle.
